I think they are called selfies now and shoot by phone. Those self portraits are more often taken with proper SLR camera, tripod and for some of them there is some thought behind them. It was a trend at least here in Iceland in the first years of common digital cameras perhaps around year 2005.
All photos made by me and I am (the only) person on each photo. Usually no assistants in place to help with anything.

The painting behind me is from Stórval, Stefán Jónsson frá Möðrudal, the most famous Icelandic naive painter. He mostly painted the mountain Herðubreið.















It is not a bad one and it has been used as a cover of a book someone published somewhere in Europe. I would have get paid for it but became somewhat complicated to get the payment so I never did.
